Yesterday, more as an experiment than anything else, I turned my X61s on immediately after retrieving it from a very cold car. It was probably at about 20 degrees F. After it powered up, I got two beeps and a warning that the embedded security had detected a tamper. I re-started and it booted, although it was very slow because (assumed) the HD was having trouble reading). After it warmed up it was fine.
But that makes me wonder.... is there any way to turn off or permanently disable the "embedded security"? I don't need it and don't want it. It sounds like one more thing that could fail and brick my laptop. ??

Embedded security failure?
Re: Embedded security failure?
Never mind.... I thought I had looked everywhere in the BIOS before this but I missed the security settings section. I set the security chip to DISABLED.
So.... what does the security chip actually do (aside from preventing a boot when very cold)?
