hdd standby when on AC...

#1 Post by James314 » Sun Mar 20, 2005 7:58 am

hi there, does anyone use HDD standby when on AC? If so, does it decrease performance i.e. does the fact that the hdd has to kick back in slow performance down at all?

Reason i ask, is that im wondering if setting my hdd to shut down might help lower the temp of my t42 marginally, possibly enough to shut the fan up - any thoughts?

thanks.

James.

One thing that I noticed is that once the temperature of HDD goes up e.g. to 40 C after defragment, it takes a loooong time to get back down to 33 C.

And I don't think that HDD temperature causes fan to run

yeah, i too have noticed that actually, it does take forever. Over the last week i have been testing my theory of hdd temp affecting the fan and to be honest i cannot notice any differance and so it seems thats another possibility that bites the dust! thanks anyway...
