What card slots do I have?

#1 Post by JonathanGennick » Sun Jan 30, 2011 1:26 pm

Put this into the category of "dumb question", but here goes:

I've a T61 with two of what look to be PC card slots on the left side. However, the icons on the plastic eject buttons are different, so I'm thinking the slots must likewise be different.

One eject button has a simple dot in the center. The other has a circle overlayed on top of an X pattern.

What are the two slots? What is the difference between them?

You have one PCMCIA slot and one ExpresCard 54 slot. In short, the PCMCIA slot is running over a PCI bus; the ExpressCard over PCI-Express.

Jonathon,
It's not a dumb question. sisyphus got it right but, to expand, the slot with the dot on the button is the PCMCIA. I believe it is a 32 bit CardBus slot. The one with the "X" is the Express Card slot. They are not interchangeable.
Lovely area you live in. I have been fortunate to be able to visit a few times.
