Fn+F5 problem with wireless
I have a T41 2373-3KG that I bought couple of weeks ago. One of the first things I did was to shut down the wireless since I don't really need it. And the sign going on and off in at the bottom of the screen started to get to my nerve. I used the Fn+F5 combo and surely enough, I got the menu for power management and shut the thing off.
Problem now is that the Fn+F5 doesn't able me to change it back on again. I get a warning that says something like (I have a finnish version of XP):
"Can't get to change power management status of 802.11 wireless radio. Update the driver for it".
The thing is, I already updated it and still nothing. Mind you, I can still get it running by going through Control Panel -> -> -> but still...
Any thoughts/comments?

Kind of the same problem...
I kind of have the same problem. The "Fn-F5" functionality brings up the applet to turn on/off wirelless/bluetooth. Turning on/off the wireless card doesn't work - The bluetooth does.
Any ideas?

Your problem isn't what you think it is
The problem is the current 802.11a/b driver you're using (I'm guessing the latest 3.1.1.5401.) If you downgrade to a version 2.x.x.x driver, you'll see everything is working just fine. I have the exact same model and tried out the two drivers on 4 different system images and it is definitely the driver that is the issue. (Acutally, it will turn on and off the wireless through Fn+F5, it just doesn' t show the state on the LED at the bottom of the screen)
I've already called IBM about this... you might do so too so that they get their software people working on a fix. If they say they've never heard of it before, tell them to look up Case# 33QV7WY to see a similar complaint.

(model is a T40p, 2373G1U, same IBM 802.11a/b wireless)

I forgot to mention that I still get that applet after the warning and can turn down the bluetooth. So we have the same issue, atlacatl.
So it really is a driver problem. Who would have known...

I noticed this immediately after the v3 driver was realized but couldn't confirm it was the driver and only the driver until I had time to create some different hard drive boot images. Going through the different images (which took 4 hours to do them all), it is definitely the driver. I think you can get the older drivers off of the IBM website if you don't have the old ones anymore.
Still, give IBM service a call so they get some more complaints about it and it escalates.

Re: Kind of the same problem...
I did upgrade the driver some time agao - It's not a big deal for me, since I right click on the icon on the tray and turn it off that way - But, it was a bit anoying that it doesn't work anymore.cynic wrote:...The problem is the current 802.11a/b driver you're using (I'm guessing the latest 3.1.1.5401.) I shall give IBM a call and see what they say...

Ok, everything is fine now. I downloaded and installed the newest driver - again - and now it works as it should. Can't really say what I did differently.
Btw. Is there any good reason why http://all.tpdrivers.com/ can't automatically detect my machine and do not even list 2373-3KG? Even the product number turns up blank.
This wouldn't be a problem if the Update Connector 5.3 worked. Well, it doesn't. I read that I'm not alone, so I'll try the 5.32 update version next.

Yep, it all should be in order. Atleast I can get the info when going to this page and pressing the "Detect my type/model".
But still no mention about brunettes or Heidi Klum
Edit: Also why is it that Opera doesn't seem to be working/supported in thinkpads. E.g. that latter link didn't work (i had to use IE for that; pop-ups were allowed) or scrolling etc. with touchpad neither.
Sorry about these questions, but I'm just beginning to warm up!
