X41 buzzing or grinding sound

Is it normal for there to be a buzzing sound when I put my ear to the laptop? Also, is a grinding sound normal when I turn it upside down? Thank you.

Might be something sticking into the fan. Pray it's the fan. The alternative (HDD) is not pretty. Try cleaning out the fan. Laptops should be humming along, not grinding along.

Thanks mediasponge, the grinding is definitely just the fan. So besides the hard drive and fan noise, is an electrical humming on either battery or ac power normal? It's only discernible in a dead quiet room.

The AC adapter itself can hum. It might also be some loose sheet metal buzzing inside the case. It might also depend on how sensitive your ears are...

I figured out it's just the CPU throttling noise.
