Need advice on T61p LCD issue

#1 Post by Ojisan » Sat Feb 05, 2011 10:11 pm

Hi all,

I have T61p 15.4in WUXGA (nVIDIA Quadro FX 570M) that is just out of warranty.

The LCD screen was starting to blank every once in a while and now it is dark. I say dark because there is a backlight that comes on and leaking at the edge of the screen. The screen is otherwise blank. The machine works fine with external display though.

I'm comfortable replacing the internals but I'm not exactly sure where the problem is. I would appreciate someone's experience/input. (my poor search skill didn't turn up much... )

Could it be:
- motherboard?
- GPU?
- LCD panel and integrated circuitry?
- LCD inverter?
- LCD connecting ribbon?

Thanks in advance!
Ojisan

If I were you, I'd contact Lenovo asap, even if if it is out of warranty.
nVidia chips in the T61 series are notorious for failing, due to a faulty chip design by nVidia.
There are lawsuits and related postings galore about this rotten chip.
If Lenovo tries to fob you off, hang up, and call again. Not everybody there is helpful. Ask for a supervisor if needed.
They should replace the motherboard for you.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)
