T510 - missing dimmer settings
T510 - missing dimmer settings
Hi -
New to the forum, but not to Thinkpads, as I've had one since the days of the 600.
Recently purchased a T510 to replace a T60p with a failed backlight, and have to say I'm generally thrilled. Bit heavier and bulkier, but the FHD is something else. Already have used it in direct sunlight - first laptop I've ever owned that I could do that with.
Have run into a bit of an odd issue, though. I've swapped the 500 GB drive for a 256 GB SSD and put a fresh install of Win 7 Pro 64 instead of the Win 7 Pro 32 the model came with, with help from this thread to reduce bloatware: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=91695
However, once I install the graphics driver, I lose the ability to access certain dimmer settings for the screen via the FN-Home/End hotkeys. It's really odd - I can dim from 15-8 fine, but then I have an option of 6, and 1, and that's it.
I can access the other settings in power manager and if I reinstall the original hard drive, so there's clearly a software or driver issue going on. I've gone through a full wipe and reinstall (where I caught that the problem started when I installed the NVIDIA/Intel Optimus driver, since prior to that it was working) reinstalled the Hotkey driver over that, and no luck.
Anyone else run into this, or any suggestions?

Re: T510 - missing dimmer settings
Hiya old*.....
Welcome to the Forum. Home away from Home for TP'ders
I have also a T510 - still showing Ships date as 9th ,,,, have a college grad itching to her hands figures on the FHD > switch from mac pro be instresting.
I have not had that issue on the Display Driver even thought I did nearly similar things you did (preserved un-open factory SSD even).....but I did see so pictures and founts messed up at few websites ,,,,,, seemed to crazy to me at the time-so I just UNINSTALLED the Driver, and rebooted and at reboot , installed it MANUALY.....and now its working fine
Maybe you did that already , if not I would try that....

Re: T510 - missing dimmer settings
Hi,
What did you think of the FHD? I have a T60p that I won't upgrade because I don't like the TP screens anymore, and I have a Macbook whose screen I **love**. But it's time for a new TP, if I can find the right screen.

Re: T510 - missing dimmer settings
She loves the FHD
AND ... she likes her T510 Win7x64 PLUS OSX with 8GBram (running as dual boot) on a Normal HD ,,,, Mac Pro (2010 model) is not even close to the FULL HD Display of TP
Cheers

Re: T510 - missing dimmer settings
Thanks, ausmike,
Holey moley, I thought that TP didn't have anything that could compare with the MacPro's. Is the FHD that new? I wish I could see one with my eyeballs before deciding whether to upgrade!

Re: T510 - missing dimmer settings
Yips ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, IAM PLEASENTLY
suprised @the FHD in W & TSeries
that thinkpad has currently; when compared to old and now FAMOUS FLEXVIEW of t60 series of past
Here is anotehr thread re the T60P Vs FHD that other pple have written about etc............am certainly NO EXPERT of 'displays' , however do happen to be one of the lucky ones that have the famous T60P with B.Hydis panel from Factory. And that t60 ; mostl used in a Docking station - so the 'laptop disply panel' is hardly ever used!
but yeah , FHD (full high def) leaves Mac Pro way behind as its not the 'retna display' which is in Iphone4! now that would be a dream machine to have....but than am not a Windows man <unix linux rule>@my house & work!
Cheers

Hi, ausmike,
Wow, thanks for the response. In your post, you mention "another thread re the T60P Vs FHD" but you didn't give a link. Do you have a link to it?
