Won't start after accidental power down.

#1 Post by poshgeordie » Tue Feb 08, 2011 5:03 pm

My home T4 frankenstein has no battery and works off AC adapter, also fitted with a 1.7GHz Durion CPU, and has a strange fault.

I accidently pulled out the DC power connector and found that it would only switch on again if I removed the CMOS battery.
Once it's powered down properly it then boots normally.

I've never come across this before and was wondering if it's more common than I thought, and also if a BIOS update might sort this out. I've currently got V3.16 which is 2005 vintage.

G'Day Nic....
I have seen that happen to me couple of times before (and you know about CMOS Battery th9ingie)- cant say I have had that on a T4x.. as oldest working i gort is t6x....

and I was told my Lenovo Tech Support > reason = STATIC DISCHARGE as if you see the PLUG part of that PSU > it has an EXPOSED METAL section > against Charged/Plastic parts........

Another reason LeNOvo went to 'sheathed' plug type in the rest of models after t4x series.......blah blah

This SAME ISSUE = also can be 'caused' when remal of Battery in some/most of the earlier T series machines....

There are a number of solutions etc ......google it and you find some realy 'creative' ones ,,,,,or you use what LeNOvo's Yech Supports's suggestion = "Rubber Feet" .....

Cheers

AusMike, are you saying that machine is bricked?

PoshG, I had something similar happen after a power surge/blackout, and the old "take everything out and start holding down the power button" etc. etc. routine that I'm sure you know got it back up.

Off topic Answer - it's a type of very odiforous fruit of course...(usually spelt "durian") and apparently are banned on buses in Malaysia.

If you've ever eaten one they make you go    and everyone in the vicinity :jhem:

Oh BTW - many thanks for the other answers but feel free to continue with durion discussion!

I have a spare 1.6 Dothan, which I could send over with the next batch of mobos...
(Less smelly, even when covered with AS5  )

Doh! I get it now - where did Durion versus Dothan come from?! That's what happens when you're looking at too many Thinkpad boards...!

Ah I knew there had to be a reason!

However how do you explain the bananias chips in some of these T4x's? I guess you could combine it with a durion and have a Thinkfruit :thumbs-UP:
