Is it possible to change how the red LED on the cover and beneath the keyboard functions?
I guess it has to be controlled by software, since it blinks/glows slowly when the computer sleeps.
It would be much more useful as a HDD activity indicator.
My system is Thinkpad Edge 11 - Core i3 - Windows 7.

You can use a free program called TrayStatus to monitor hard disk activity:
