S-Video problem

#1 Post by Tony Vella » Fri Feb 11, 2011 3:19 pm

I have some Region 2 DVDs that our Region 1 DVD player will not play. I noticed however that my T42 plays the Region 2 DVDs with no problem: I just put the DVD in like any other and it starts by itself and all the functions and selections work. So I went out and bought an S-Video cable and attached my T42 to our television and everything I do on the T42 shows up perfectly on the TV except for the Region 2 DVDs. I get the Windows Media Player on the TV but no video. Am I doing something wrong? Am I missing a step somewhere?

Thanks in advance for all assistance.

ADDENDUM: I have just tried to play a Region 1 DVD and again everything shows on the TV except the video image. So the fact that the other DVDs are Region 2 does not seem to matter. Any help appreciated.

AFAIK you need to boot the laptop with the S-Video cable already connected, to make it work.

No joy, I'm afraid. See everything on the tele (WMP, drop-down menus, mouse pointer, etc.) but not the video image which is perfect on the laptop.
I'm completely lost on this one. Nonetheless, thanks very much for trying.

IIRC, when you use S-Video to watch videos, you need to use Theater (overlay) mode. This should be one of the options in Display Properties > Advanced.
