X60 - ThinkVantage BIOS update - dead battery

#1 Post by g8tzl » Sat Feb 12, 2011 2:26 pm

I have been using ThinkVantage to update my recently acquired X60 (1707Y1Q) running XP.

I decided to exclude the BIOS update from the ThinkVantage update options as I have a dead battery - with older Thinkpads, I am aware that you need a good battery although there are workarounds.

However, is it actually possible to update the BIOS of an X60 with a dead battery without using any fixes or workarounds?

The BIOS in my X60 is very early 1.03. Are there any major issues with continuing to use version 1.03?

All the other ThinkVantage updates were installed EXCEPT "Intel Wireless WiFi Link for Windows XP". The message I get is "The wizard was interupted before Intel PROsat /Wireless WiFi Software could be completely installed". Any idea if the Wifi update involves writing to an eeprom (like with the BIOS update) so I also need a good battery? Any other thoughts? Maybe I need to disconnect the 1394 Connection?

Thanks

Hi I found this from another forum

"Re: Updating BIOS on Thinkpad T60 - no battery
Options

For the t61 lenovo I renamed the $01af000.fl1 to bios.rom and I renamed the $01af000.fl2 to platform.bin. Then use the winphlash tool that is apart of the bios update download from lenovo (it is in the folder you download). I browsed to the bios.rom file and ran the update with out problems. the system rebooted and came up normaly. I had the same problem with a battery error and this got around it."

It worked for me. I have an x60 tablet and did it under windows xp.

From control panel add/remove programs, uninstall the current Intel Wireless package and then download and install this one ...
