New X201 beeps occasionally
New X201 beeps occasionally
Just got a new X201 with an SSD harddrive last September. I have the larger 9 cell battery and it is plugged in to adapter most of the time and to external monitor, keyboard and mouse.
It beeps on occasion even when it is in sleep mode. I go over to it and there is never any error message and it does not appear to be running hot nor low on battery.
It has Windows 7 on it and there is not much software installed on it so the system is fairly clean.
I ran the Lenovo diagnostic tests on it and it didn't find anything.
It also occasionally reboots itself (once every 3 weeks or so) and the message says that it was a "bluescreen" error. Not sure if the beep and reboot are related.
Appreciate any suggestions or help on this. The beep is driving me nuts.
Thanks.
Edit: It beeps twice with about 5-10 seconds between each beep and does this every 15 minutes or so. And it only appears to beep when the monitor goes to sleep.

Re: New X201 beeps occasionally
In Windows, in System Properties window, click on the Advanced tab, then click on Settings button under Startup and Recovery. In Startup and Recovery window, uncheck Automatically restart under System failure section. Click OK to save setting (then click OK to close System Properties Window). The next time you get the BSOD write it down and post it here verbatim.
Re: New X201 beeps occasionally
Thanks Harryc. I have made the changes and report back the next time it crashes.
Any idea what those beeps are about?

Re: New X201 beeps occasionally
I think I know what these beeps are: go to your BIOS, power settings, beeps. you'll probably have the 'beep when powerstate changes' setting on.
Re: New X201 beeps occasionally
I think you may be right Daniel. I made the changes and I haven't heard beep from it since. Thanks a lot!
I must have to say this seems to be a very bizarre default BIOS option. The large majority of people would not care about being informed about their system going to sleep/hibernate. I recently got into Apple products after couple of decades working with PCs and things like this are part of why more and more people are migrating to Macs.
