R51 Bluetooth issue

#1 Post by lucnikonik » Sun Feb 13, 2011 4:35 am

Hi all

I've got a strange issue with Bluetooth :((
"My Precioussss" T41 died on flexing and i have no time for repair now, so i lend my wife's R51, type 2887-K2G with integrated Bluetooth 93P3471 card.
I used some of my components (CPU, HDD, battery, wifi, RAM) in it, everything works fine.

Now my problem: i am running Windows 7 Professional, modem from the BT/modem combo is detected and works, but bluetooth is not detected by windows, it appears as BT is not in the machine - does someone had similar problem ?

When i press Fn-F5, it seems like BT is ON, but BT light on the display bottom doesn't lit. i tried everything, but no effort (upgraded power managment driver, chipset drivers ...)

Thanks in advance for help :)

P.S. I tried to exchange the BT modem combo for 91P7315 from my dead T41, but with the same result - modem works, BT not shown in device manager :(

Did you connect the BT antenna to the card?

The modem is a flat push-in connector.
BT is only one cable (white) with the same connector as on a wifi-card.
If you connected a black and gray par of cables, that was the wifi card.

try launching the power functions (Fn+F5), and seeing if bluetooth is seen. if it is off, turn it on. on my t61, win7 will not see the bluetooth adapter untill I turn it on in there.

RBS: thx, but i have connected the right cables, black and gray are for wifi, white is for BT, but the white wire is antenna only, it "speaks" with mobo through the white big bottom connector :(

i am concerned about the strange behavior of 3pcs of modem/BT combo cards, which i have at home (1x original 93P3471, 2x 91P7315) - all 3 are behaving the same = modem OK, BT not functional, i cannot detect it through device manager - it's strange - the only thing which looks logical is defective mobo, but why it, without any reason nor disassembly it won't run ? :-((

craigmontHunter: that was the first thing i tried :-((

I was not sure if you had tried it or not - it really threw me for a loop the first time it happened to me  )
The only other thing I can come up with is that it is disabled in the bios - that would explain the symptoms - only modem enabled)

I hope that this solves your problem (or you should talk to RBS about fixing your T41)

craigmonHunter: thx, in BIOS is nothing, only internal wireless enable/disable :((

about fixing my T41 - RBS is too far from me (too expensive shipping), so i decided to buy replacement mobo for T41 with ATI9600 (at Lapstore.de it is for 59euros plus 14euro shipping and handling) - i am planning to upgrade the screen from XGA (1024x768) to SXGA+ (1400x1050) - i woud be happier with 1600x1200, but in 14" size no thinkpad was done i think, but the SXGA+ would be enough.

My T41 is 2373-A10 - when i bought it, it was PM1.6, 768MB RAM, ATI7500 32MB, 60GB disk, DVD-ROM, 14" XGA, 9cell battery; when the board died, it was PM2.0, 2GB RAM, 160GB Samsung drive, DVD/CDRW and Integrated Bluetooth II, running Win7 Professional :)

When i got some money, i'll buy the new motherboard, screen, battery and DVD-RW drive :))

At this moment my CPU, RAM, harddrive, battery and wifi card are inside my wife's R51 (with 15" 1600x1200 resolution and intel855 graphics)

sorry - it is hard to tell location as you are writing the reply. You should probably talk to poshgeordie (or click the blue icon at the top of the screen (the right one) - he should be able to fix your planar (unless you really wanted to upgrade). I am at a loss as to why you cannot activate bluetooth, so hopefully someone more knowlegeable than me will come along and I can learn something as well.

I've been having the exact same issue with my T43p and have not been able to make any sense out of the whole thing.

It must be the fact that something is disabled - what exactly is anyone's guess - and one can't get the BT to be recognized whatsoever, while the modem which is on the very same card, works 100%. It's mind-boggling.

I've even tried the older cards which are supposed to throw an "1803 error" but got nothing. No error, no recognition, the BIOS ignores them altogether.

Thankfully, some of my other laptops have BT, just in case I really need to hook something up that way, but that fact doesn't solve the mystery at hand...

I guess the butler did it...

Has anyone used a mini usb BT adapter? BT is mostly nonfunctional in my T42p, the one you supplied me with a screen for a couple yrs ago, and I'm debating replacing the card vs just trying the mini adapter.

Would you mind telling us some more info about that R51 with Intel graphics and UXGA display?
What is the TYPE/Model (looks like e.g. 2883-ELU) on the sticker on the bottom?
If you open up the RAM lid and remove the RAM from the bottom, what is the motherboard P/N or FRU?
Do you know the manufacturer, model number and IBM P/N or FRU of the LCD, and what is the P/N or FRU of the LCD cable?

+1, if it can be duplicated we will have a new generation of 15" UXGA Flexview Intel R51's :). Also, this could be a replacement board for borked T42P's with UXGA Flexview LCD's.

RBS: it is a normal 2887-K2G, it came with XGA display; i got from a friend UXGA display from R51p with all cables and inverter and at first i only wanted to know, if it works :-)) - when the screen saw my wife, she said "dear, could You leave it in my laptop ?, it looks amazing" :-D.

The only bad thing is, that the card under win7 is not able to use memory from RAM, so 8MB is not so much, specially in Ultima Online sometimes are errors in the picture.

i do not remember the fru of LCD, but i take a look tomorrow and write all the FRU's here :-))

i got from a friend UXGA display from R51p
Could you possibly mean an R50P?. There was no R51P model Thinkpad.

If that is from an R50p, it's an
IDTech N150U3-L01 UXGA LCD, P/N 92P6683,
UXGA LCD cable 91P6836 and an
SXGA+/UXGA inverter 91P7336

AFAIK this is not possible, when attached to an Intel GPU, probably because there are no matching drivers (which you seem to prove...).
Even the (better) R52 with Intel GPU can only drive a 14" XGA and a 15" XGA or SXGA+.

MINI Bluetooth USB adapter from ebay arrived today. Plugged it in and it's immediately recognized and is an altogether acceptatble workaround for my T42p with otherwise awol bt. Extends out of the bt port all of about 1/2".

An update on my end...

After more than a year of me fiddling with it, BT decided to start working on its own... :?:

No clue on what triggered that event but am not complaining...
