I've used Opera as my primary browser for over 10 years.
Pretty much the only time I use IE is when I need ActiveX (mainly for work-related sites plus of course Windows Update).

Yes Harry, of course there are others. I also was a Firefox fanatic through version 2, even a member of the Spread Firefox BOINC team. I dislike version 3 and later. I participated in the record making download day, and have not really used it since.

On Windows, I use SeaMonkey or K-Meleon. But neither of them is perfect. I use IE for certain tasks (and no, I am not refering to poorly coded sites which "require" IE).

With GNU/Linux, I like to use Links 2 or Dillo. I will learn to use lynx eventually, for Gopher.

I found that Firefox 3.6.13 is slow with Java stuff, and flash games. I'm hoping Firefox 4.0 final will be out soon, and it will be better. Right now i'm using google chrome. I works A LOT better with java. Internet Explorer 8 keeps crashing on Pogo.com when I play games, and I heard it is more prone to viruses.

I gave up on Firefox a few years ago. Explorer is a no go for me... Google Chrome right now is lean and fast and SIMPLE to use..and I'm sticking to it.... :thumbs-UP:

Chrome (Portable version) is my chosen one (or Chromium in my TPs with Linux) since I felt every new FF version was getting slower at the time I switched some months ago. I like Chrome for being fast and with minimalistic design.

Now, having SSDs in my desktop and a couple of laptops I may use both. FF has an impressive amount of add-ons, although Chrome is slowly catching up...

FF 75%, IE 25%. I used to use FF almost exclusively, but it seems to have become more buggy/less stable.

I've been using Firefox for about 5 years now. I use to use IE 6, which I did like but then I found out about tabbed browsing with Firefox and have pretty much never bothered with IE since. I tried 7 when it came out, but I found it was too slow to do things for my liking.

I'd use Chrome, but it still doesn't have all the problems ironed out. More of a playground sort of thing really.

I use Safari in OS X and IE in Windows 7. Since OS X is my primary OS, Safari is by default my primary browser. I do have Safari installed on my Windows 7 partition, and have FireFox installed on both OS X and Windows 7 partitions. Since I also have a Windows 7 VM on my OS X partition, I technically also have IE on OS X.

All those browsers aside, I only deviate from default when something doesn't render correctly or if I just need to have multiple browsers open (different logins, etc).

I used to use IE5 or 6. I can't remember which, it's been too long. Then, a friend showed me FF and I was suspicious and uneasy about switching at first, but once I got using it, I really never looked back. When I made the switch to Linux about four years ago, that cemented it for me. Chrome has a few things I like, but nowhere near enough for me to switch. And, I've never found anything to like about Opera.

How do other non-IE browsers handle security updates? Do they just let you patch or do you need to update to a new browser version? The one thing that I don't like about Opera compared to IE is that if I want to get security fixes I have to download a new version and put up with their unnecessary interface changes.

Google Chrome for me on Windows 7 and Chromium on Ubuntu :)

Used Opera from about May last year and February this year and found that whilst Version 10 (starting with 10.51 I believe) was good, Version 11 kept on crashing (Windows 7) so I made the switch to Chrome, it feels a lot faster!

I used IE before May last year, IE5, IE6, then IE7, and then IE8, but on my virtual machine of Windows Vista I am running the RC of IE9 and it seems better than IE8, but still not as good as Chrome. :D

Fire fox for most every thing, but i use IE6 still for a control panel for an answering service IE is the only thing you can get in with. I stay with IE6 because i like the work off line function, there's a couple of sites i need access to all the time and i have dial up so i cant just go online that easy all the time.

Chrome all the way! It's the fastest and lets my older PIII and P4 systems work to their full potential and makes it able to actually watch Youtube. Though I have Firefox on my PPC Apples since Chrome doesn't work on those.

I've tried Netscape Navigator, Firefox, Opera, Chrome and Internet Explorer.

I am not a fan of MS but the one which has less interference with what I want to do is IE8. It gives me more visible space on screen than the others with all their toolbars.

Maybe I am sad to like an MS product. I just wish that they would use correct English rather than US English.

Been using FF since ver. 2. A couple months ago I decided to try out Chrome, at first I liked it and within two weeks I couldn't stand it any longer...I don't recall exact details other than it seemed very buggy. Thought it might make my gmail experience even better, in fact it made it worse!

I only use IE when I have to, for updates. Sometimes if I have 3x20tabs open in FF, I will use Task Manager to force FF closed so when I restart it, I can restore all tabs AND windows. Then I'll start Netflix in IE.

I REALLY like the Noscript plug-in for FF, I can pick and choose which parts of which sites I want active on my machine, cuts down on advertising and potential spam.

I've been using FF4 betas and now rc1. It is the best browsing experience I've ever had. Tab candy/panorama is incredible and "Pin tab as app" is just as good.

I switched to Chrome from FF a week before FF4 came out. I had some issues but convinced myself I can live with them. FF4 made me realize I don't have to do that. It's my main browser again.

No need for such drastic measures. Just use File|Exit from the menu on any of the windows.

 Wow, I feel silly. I thought I had tried everything, even from downloaded "firefox restart" plug-ins that didn't do what I wanted. Thanks for the tip, Yak!

update: Just installed FF4...love it! My favorite visible feature so far are the ability to make dedicated "app tabs".

No smooth scrolling, no print preview, no Google Chrome. There is a smooth scroll plugin but it doesn't work well on laptops.

Opera renders too many pages improperly.

IE 9 is not bad actually.

It's Firefox for me though.

PALEMOON! :)

Its a clone of Firefox modified for Windows. It uses everything firefox uses. Extensions, add on's and themes. Firefox was made for linux.

I use to like Chrome myself, but after a while of usage it loves to crash. So a no go for me.

Read about Palemoon here ---> http://www.palemoon.org/

"Palemoon" is just Firefox, rebuilt with a slightly different config. Personally I trust Mozilla and various distros more than I do some random dude's (effectively closed source!) builds.
