t61 win7 ult x64 activation fail

#1 Post by ianf » Wed Feb 16, 2011 10:43 am

hello
well my t61 15.4" with new hdd , new copy of w7 ult and middletons bios .
when i go on line to activate it fails , message something along the lines of: wrong license for this copy of w7.
the carton w7 came in was fully sealed .
i have 15 days left and can use the reset prog to buy me more time for another 30 days.
can i just phone up Ms like with xp, or have i installed this in the wrong mannner, my t60 with w7 home x64 was problem free.

on another matter for those looking for ram , i have now fitted 2x4gb hynix and they seem to work well ,they cost in the uk on ebay about £88 for the pair inc post ,i have posted elsewhere on the forum full specs for the ram.

thanks ian

If it is a legal version, you should not have a problem with calling microsoft and telling them - they should ask for the key, and then they should give you a code. If it is legal, there should be no issues. If it is not legal, I would reccomend against calling microsoft.

thanks craig for reply
the thing i am not sure of is the fact i used a custom bios and if this has something to do with the validation, i have never bought such things and still have my original set of dos disks plus every version of windows released except vista and although being fully packaged and with seal intact in cellothane in this day and age, means perhaps not what it should, it has not offered a phone call type validation, that maybe the norm or not, unlike xp that will , i am wondering if i should have installed this before middletons bios, as i suspect it might be to do with slic 2.1, i can confirm that is what is in bios here.
i am reluctant to phone Ms untill i know its not a hardware problem of my making, the sticker coa is for vista x32,that it shipped with from ibm/lenovo.

thanks ian

if you have the real box, what the silc tables are should not matter. If you are in the right, then nothing can happen if you call them (although if you have a legal version I see no issues with using the silc) for example, a system that shipped with at the time of the transition from vista to 7 could have a vista coa but the 7 silc, and if the user had an upgrade, there is no way that microsoft could punish them. Once activation fails, there should be an option to call them and talk to someone on the phone.

Good Luck
