R51 Turn Off when installing windows xp or 7

#1 Post by ciberdiego » Wed Feb 16, 2011 2:05 pm

Hello,
i have an ibm thinkpad r51,
The laptop was turned off while working on windows,
I inserted a Windows CD to install, but when the installation starts off when finished loading drivers, I inserted a CD of Windows 7 and did the same, also with an ERD COMMANDER,but with a hirenscd not switch off, I changed the hard drive and same thing happens, I cleaned the fans, I alternated the 2 ram memory,
Always turns off at the same moment.
I can only think that the motherboard is bad.
can you help?
thanks

Run tpfancontrol in BIOS mode, and tell us what the CPU and GPU temps are before the unit shuts off.

I can barely understand your first post. No tpfancontrol does not have a live utility.

Yes, if you have an ATI board, it is entirely possible that the board warms up at a fairly consistant rate so that the system hangs at the same time every time (I guess the southbridge could provide simmilar issues?). Otherwise, you may have issues with you cd drive or media. Try booting a linux live cd (I reccomend ubuntu of linux mint - these are probably the most used linux versions on this site), then see if that loads properly. Please report back your 7-character model so that we can determine the specs of your system.

Download the pc doctor live cd and run all the tests, see if that does anything. The winpe live cd may not stress the hard drive enough.

Does the screen have any problems, like flickering, distorted picture?
Do the USB ports still function at speed of USB2.0?
