TV on an A31p

#1 Post by mtnman » Wed Feb 16, 2011 8:22 pm

Since I am out of posts to research, I know someone out there can help me. I want to watch TV on my A31p(2653-r4u). The tuner/capture card is installed, configured, and working. OTA digital broadcasts are not smooth. The video jerks from scene to scene. The audio is smoother but not like a normal television. The 2.0 USB stick is connected to an outside antenna and run through a PCMCIA to USB 2.0 adapter. My A31p has a 2Ghz processor and 1GB memory. I love these machines! I've got two of them. Any ideas?

Welcome to thinkpads.com!

You may be below the minimum system specifications for the USB tuner when receiving HDTV signals (if that's what you are trying to view); check the spec sheet that should have come with the tuner or Google the model number. Most cards that I looked at some months ago required a faster CPU and/or a better GPU when decoding and displaying HD transmissions versus SD. The ATI FireGL 7800 in the A31p may not be capable enough to run the tuner.

Windows may also be trying to multitask too many programs at the same time. Reduce the number of programs if possible and see if that makes any difference.

I would take the setup to a friend's house and try it with cable instead of OTA. The problem may be the outside antenna or the stuff in between.
