Standard. If you get an edu package you get a CD copy of the preinstalled reading package (Vitalkey Source or something like that). You can burn a set of recovery CDs from Access IBM, try calling customer support to send you a set, or follow the directions at http://www.4saad.com/WhatsNew/Fresh_XP_Install/ to create a bootable WinXP cd from the contents of your /i386 directory.

Try going into the Display properties and whatnot, under Appearance, click Effects, then uncheck Use Large Icons. if that doesn't work, try changing your DPI...? After that, I dunno.

try going to display properties...
appearance tab..
click advanced..

then under item make sure the following are set:
Icon - Size 32
Icon Spacing (Horizontal) - Size 43
Icon Spacing (Vertical) - Size 43

i had the same problem when i first got my laptop (same model as u).. and i think this is what i changed... the sizes i got from another laptop that had winxp installed freshly

w00t w00t! Mine just arrived today! It was shipped from Ex HK bay and the UPS's tracking status had it there for a few days. Then all of a sudden all this tracking data came up.

I'm still waiting for my extra 256MB of RAM to come.

So far I've burnted the software/drivers that were in the IBMtools folder.

I just can't believe how thin and light this T42 is. (BTW I got the 2378-FVU). I had the biggest grin on my face. The SXGA+ screen looks awesome. A lot clearer than my dell 600m.
