How can I uninstall the Intel PRO/Wireless 2915abg on T43p?
How can I uninstall the Intel PRO/Wireless 2915abg on T43p?
Wow, have I got a headache from this one. I have now spent over 10 hours dealing with this
I am running the T43p (full model 2668-G2U) and for some reason my Wireless indicator stopped working. To make the long story short, I downloaded the newest release for me:
Intel PRO/Wireless 2200bg, 2915abg Mini PCI adapter
Dated 03 Apr 2009
v12.04.0000
Download Link here:
http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc ... wc05ww.zip
I tried to run it, but it would hang near the end by "never finishing" the install. Afterwards, I retried it again about 3-4 times (including in Safe Mode) and still no go.
When I try to hit Fn+F5, I get an error saying
"Unable to change the power state of 802.11 wireless radio. Update the driver for the wireless adapter."
I then manually tried to un-install the driver via the Control Panel / System / Network but it also hangs. Trying to roll-back the driver also doesn't go. I have tried running CCleaner to make sure I dont have any garbage + Malware Bytes to see if I have any trojan's or viruses.
Can someone please help me to figure out how to un-install all this so I can try to re-install the Wirelesss drivers from scratch?? I am unable to use my wireless at all now.
All help is appreciated! By the way, if there is a way to bypass the IntelPro Wireless thing and let Windows XP SP3 control it, that would be acceptable for me also.
Thank you!

Re: How can I uninstall the Intel PRO/Wireless 2915abg on T43p?
You can try the Microsoft Windows Installer Cleanup Utility available at http://majorgeeks.com/Windows_Installer ... d4459.html
Be advised that Microsoft has removed this utility from their site because it sometimes damages programs other than the target program. That said, I used it to fix a problem with a Rescue and Recovery installation with no other problems. Use at your own risk and only if you have exhausted all other means of fixing the problem. This is the last resort before reinstalling Windows.

Go to START - Control Panel - Network Connections - Wireless Connection (x) (whatever your wireless connection is) - Status - Properties - Wireless Networks -and click the box "Use Windows to configure my wireless settings". If you do not see the "wireless Networks" tab, go to Control Panel - Administrative tools - Services - and ensure "wireless Zero Configuration" has started.
An alternate way is to click on the "wireless network connection" icon in the lower right of your screen and go to "related tasks - change advanced settings - which gets you to the Properties dialog box.
Go to CCleaner and click "tools" then try to uninstall the ThinkVantage Access Connections.

In general, I'd avoid installing Wi-Fi drivers via included setup software. Rather, going to device manager, and manually installing drivers tends to be much quicker and less likely to have issues like this.

Re: How can I uninstall the Intel PRO/Wireless 2915abg on T43p?
Sorry for my delayed reply, but somehow, after trying CCleaner and a number of various un-install programs (none of which helped), I was able to get rid of the IntelPro Wireless program. For some unknown reason, when I was trying to install one of these un-install programs, the Windows Installation handler realized that there was an "unfinished installation" (meaning my numerous previous attempts to un-install Intel PRO/Wireless and having it get stuck each time). It then finished "reversing" that installation, which in turn killed the Intel PRO/Wireless.
Then, I ran Services.MSC and selected Windows Wireless Zero Configuration Service to start automatically.
And guess what, now everything works nicely via Windows XP SP3 built-in WiFi. The only thing that still remains unsolved is:
When I try to hit Fn+F5, I get an error saying "Unable to change the power state of 802.11 wireless radio. Update the driver for the wireless adapter."
I have no idea which exact driver/file I need to install in order to get the control of Fn+F5 back (as it only shows the Bluetooth option). If someone can point me to the right file for that one, I woulk appreciate it.

Re: How can I uninstall the Intel PRO/Wireless 2915abg on T43p?
You need the Hotkey utility from Lenovo for Fn+F5.
If you have that already installed, then you need Lenovo's Intel Wireless Driver Software. That software should work fine even though you had issues before. If Access Connections is installed, uninstall that before installing anything else. You do not need Access Connections and sometimes there are issues with it.
EDIT: Of course if your wireless adapter is not the Intel 2915abg, then you need whatever appropriate Lenovo driver that's available for your wireless adapter.
