x41 speaker issue

#1 Post by elroy » Sun Feb 20, 2011 9:36 pm

Wondering if anyone has also had this issue or have any ideas.

I have a x41 thinkpad, and the speaker has stopped output sound of any appreciable level (can barely hear sound with ear right up to speaker).

The audio jack still works just fine, as well as the speakers in the docking station.

The internal speaker tests fine for resistance with a multimeter.

Perhaps I blew the amplifier for the internal speaker?
I'm guessing it not repairable without replacing the mother board.

Welcome to the forum!

While I havn't had any experience with the problem you are having, my guess would be that if you can hear any sound at all, you have not "blown" the amplifier circuits. The same circuit powers the headphone jack as powers the speaker. So, it's most likely the speaker itself that is damaged. While you have things taken apart, if you have another speaker, swap it in there and see if that makes any difference.
