Re-install problem

#1 Post by kengeo » Mon Feb 21, 2011 7:18 am

Switched on my T21, it got to the XP screen, it then froze (no scrolling). Switched off by holding on/off down, switched on again, selected 'Last good config' same thing. Tried booting into 'Safe mode' but it wouln't have it, so I decided to use recovery discs. I wiped the drive, put discs in, everything seemed to run o.k. Eventually it said to remove disc-2, & press Enter to re-boot, I did this, it then loaded some files & said 'Setup is starting Windows' It then froze at that point. Thinking that it was a 'hard drive' problem I changed it for another, wiped it & went through the recovery process again with exactly the same result!
freezing at the same point. Has anyone got a answer to this weird problem? It has previously run troublefree for years.

Remove HDD, Memory and both the Ethernet/wireless cards. Basically strip it out.
Push the power button, should get 1-3-3-1 beep sequence. If so, put 1 stick of memory in and try it again. Then 1 at a time, add all the items back. make sure you put the 2nd stick of memory in last.

let us know what happens

If the system froze about 30 minutes into the Windows install, then pull out the MiniPCI modem/ethernet card and try re-installing the OS again.

Sounds like a corrupt driver issue.
