How to display movie through DVI (HDMI?) on lcd monitor?

#1 Post by John H » Wed Feb 23, 2011 12:41 pm

I've got an ordinary 23" LCD monitor for HDTV through a DVI (or is it HDMI?) cable from the STB. I'd like to display some of the movies I've got on my venerable T40 on the LCD. I've got the T40 dock (or port extender, 74P6734). So I thought I could attach the DVI cable between the LCD and the DVI connector on the back of the dock. So far, it passed the Smoke Test (hooked it up and it didn't start smoking!). But all I got on the LCD is a very blocky facsimile of the windows (XP) startup screen. Verrry blocky. Verrry poor color resolution.

I tried some obvious things, like poking around in the XP "Display" Control Panel, but so far no change.

Usually I view movies with VLC, but I can change.

Has anyone done this?
