X60s Lid Replacement
Hey guys, I just had a question regarding the lids on these computers.
I recently bought an X60s and it's pretty rough, so now I am slowly rebuilding it to get it back to a decent condition. The lid was really bad, I have since pledged it and it's coming back a little bit, but still a very tired finish. Anyway, I found a new lid but says it's for an X61, not X61T (but no mention of X60 series).
So I'm mainly wondering what part numbers will work with an X60s for lids. I'm having a hard time locating these really, plus people want like 45 dollars for them o_O
I already ordered a new palm-rest and bottom for this computer (The palmrest is for an X61s but I already confirmed it should work although it might block the IR port).
I have a brand new keyboard in it, new inverter and a new hard drive with a fresh install of Windows Vista Home Premium SP2. It runs quite nicely even with only 1gb of ram surprisingly enough.
I was also thinking of removing the WWAN card + cable because I have absolutely no use for it. Not sure what I'd need besides a cover for the antenna on the display.

Any X6x[/s] top will fit any X6x[/s] base, i.e., any top from {X60, X60s, X61, X61s} will fit any base from {X60, X60s, X61, X61s}.
Good luck with your project!

Re: X60s Lid Replacement
yay good to hear, I will order one of the lids when I get the palm-rest and base in. They're coming in from China, so I am a little wary.
Maybe I'll post pictures before and after I get the parts change.

Re: X60s Lid Replacement
Who are you ordering the parts from?
I could use a new lid and keyboard for my X60s.
Thanks

Re: X60s Lid Replacement
It is unclear what you mean by "lid". Just to be clear:Brian10161 wrote:... I will order one of the lids ...
It is the entire "top" of the machine that is swappable for any other "top".
All the parts of the "top" assembly are specific to UltraLight vs. non-UltraLight screens, so either replace the entire "top" assembly ..or.. make certain you order the correct parts for your type of screen, i.e., UltraLight vs. non-UltraLight.

Re: X60s Lid Replacement
I have the X60s with the WWAN thing. I'm unsure if it's the ultralight model or not.
I ordered my palm-rest and base from the seller "Thinkpad_2007". I haven't received the parts, so why not wait until I receive them and then make a decision. I will post pictures.
Here is the PN: 42X3921 CATCHER OR 42X4880 FOXCONN
I don't know if it will fit my X60s, want to make sure before I order it then.

Re: X60s Lid Replacement
Neither of those will work for the X60s because the ThinkLight on the X61[/s] was repositioned, and thus the LCD cable and the LCD bezel are also different..Brian10161 wrote:I have the X60s ... 42X3921 ... OR 42X4880 ... I don't know if it will fit my X60s
Below are the only part numbers which will work with your existing X60s:
For non-UltraLight LCD: FRU #41V9718

For UltraLight LCD: FRU #41V9719

Re: X60s Lid Replacement
Oh okay, good to know. I'm glad I didn't buy one hehe
It's too bad, it would have been cool to get a new lid for my X60. Hopefully something will pop up, maybe I can re-coat my current lid. It's not dented, just the rubber coating is extremely uneven and worn off.

Re: X60s Lid Replacement
I can't seem to find the specific FRU for the LCD LID for my X61s with ultralight. You found specific FRU's for the x60s but I can't tell the difference between one lid and the other on this page http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-62914 what does SWPG or TMD mean? I assume one of them is for the ultralight and one isn't..but it doesn't make it clear, and it is a CTO machine so that doesn't give any hints on that page.

Re: X60s Lid Replacement
Toshiba Mobile Display Co., Ltd. (TMD) is the manufacturer of the UltraLight screens. For the X61s with UltraLight screen, you need one of the 42Xnnnn FRU #s for TMD from the page your referenced.Cunha wrote:... FRU for the LCD LID for my X61s with ultralight. ... what does SWPG or TMD mean?

Re: X60s Lid Replacement
The new palmrest and bottom plate came in. The computer looks brand new when opened, when it's closed the lid really looks bad.
I still haven't found one new, don't really want used. all the other parts have been new, so it'd be nice to get the LCD bezel and lid panel for it.
I have a few pictures of the computer now here -->

Edit: Since I have changed the palmrest and bottom plate, I have found the wireless card is cooler now, or at least the palmrest is. It's not getting as hot as it use to, which is nice.

Re: X60s Lid Replacement
It has the metal plate, but a piece of tape covering it. Not really sure of the purpose of it. The extra holes in the side are what I think is helping.
