Hello......and Help.....
Hello......and Help.....
Hello
First of all I am not a computer expert but can fellow instructions to fix or try to fix issues.
I had been using Thinkpad t43 for last a few years. Computer was getting too slow so I decided to restore to factory restore. This is my about 6-8 times of restoring.
I successfully restore to factory setting. However, my hard drive almost full. This computer has total of 40g. After the restore to factory restore....I only had 12g. This is without installing ANY other software.....just Win XP pro.
So boldly I decided to format the hard drive and reinstall Win XP pro........BIG MISTAKE.
I installed Window XP without problem, but many of Thinkpad hardware devices were not recognized. so I went to IBM support website to install all the drivers. I tried to install thing that I think I need. Now I got my hard drive space back almost 35g.
Now THE PROBLEM
IBM web site asked me, if I wanted to updated BIOS so I said yes and now computer inoperative.
Now, When I turn on the computer.....noting comes up on the screen. no....IBM logo.....No 1F or F2.....No safe mode...I mean nothing, and keyboard does not respond; only power on button. Then computer starts to beep...in patten of 1-3-3-1. When I press power button...computer shuts off immediately.
I tried to look for answer here and other site but.....can't seem to find solution.
Do I have DEAD computer or is this fixable?
I thank you in advance...
Mark.

Re: Hello......and Help.....
Reseat the RAM. Try one RAM module at a time in different slots.

Re: Hello......and Help.....
The 1-3-3-1 beep code indicates bad or missing memory, so if you removed both memory modules and turned the system on, that's the expected response. To repeat and expand on Harryc's advice:
- remove the hard drive as it's not going to be needed in the following tests; if you leave it in, then it will slow you down because if Windows loads, you'll have to wait for it to finish and then you'll have to shut it down to complete the tests
- install only ONE memory module and then power the system up and see what happens. If it boots normally (Thinkpad splash screen, you can hit F1 to access BIOS, etc.), then you can consider that memory module to be okay. If it doesn't boot (i.e., you get the same 1-3-3-1 beep code), then that module may be defective
- in either case, power off the system, remove that module and install the other one in the same memory slot as before
- power up the system and see if the system boots. Again, if it does boot, then that module is probably okay or if the system does not boot, then the module may be defective
- repeat the same boot tests as described above using one module in the second memory slot
- after completing these four system boots, you should have an idea whether one or both modules are defective or if you have a problem with one or both memory slots
