Running a Dell 3008WFP from a T61 Type 6460-07U

#1 Post by davidschultz » Sat Mar 05, 2011 3:03 pm

I just got a Dell 3008WFP off Ebay. I have a T61 without a DVI docking port. I connected a VGA cable to the monitor and can't figure out how to get an image on it. The monitor has a screen saver window that says No DVI-D1 Cable. Can I run the monitor at all without a docking port? At this point I don't need max resolution.

There should be a way to select the video input (DVI, VGA) either through the monitor menu or using one of the buttons on the front panel.

Welcome to the forum! Here's a quote from the Dell Support Website:
Support VGA, DVI-D, DisplayPort, HDMI, Component, S-Video and Composite video signals.
So, looks like you should be able to connect directly from the VGA port without a dock. Does the monitor have a hardware or software switch to choose inputs? And do you have the VGA port active on the T61? Toggle Fn + F7 to switch between LCD, VGA and VGA+LCD.
Collection = T500 - R400 - X300 - X200 - T61 (14" WXGA+) - T61 (14.1" SXGA+) - T60 (15" SXGA+) - X40 - T43p - T43 - T42p - A30P - 600E

Hi Neil, Thanks you fixed the issue. I figured out the controls on the monitor and got it to work .
Thanks Again,
David

You won't be able to use that monitor properly like that. It requires a DUAL LINK DVI cable for 2560x1600 to work. Get the right dock (for example - http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... 61297.html) and enjoy it fully. I love my 3007WFP.

Hi Ivan, Thanks for the link. I understand I can't get max resolution with my setup. I just wanted to make sure the monitor worked. I now have a problem that resulted from my trying to adjust the resolution color brightness, etc.. I made some changes and clicked apply and the screen went blank and now says it isn't getting a signal from my T61. Haven't figured that out yet.
