Which drivers are usefull in Windows 7 Xp Mode?

#1 Post by eyeland » Sun Mar 06, 2011 4:06 pm

Couldn't really find any exhaustive answers to this on the forum, so here goes:
I am playing around with Windows 7 Virtual Machine XP mode since I have various hardware-devices that remain unsupported on my Win7Ux64
These include one of my cameras (an old Canon DSLR 350D and an old Sony Mp3player)
Remote control and tethered shooting on the camera is unsupported as it requires a driver that doesn't exist for x64

This brings me to the question:
What are your experiences with XP mode?
What drivers do you install? (the update utility doesn't seemingly doesn't work)

I installed XP Mode on my Win 7 Pro x64 desktop the other day. So far I haven't encountered any hardware problems as all my existing hardware that was installed under Win7 tranferred over to XP Mode and I didn't have to updated any drivers. I did updated Internet Explorer to version 8 and did all the available security updates from the Windows Update site.

I would suspect in your instance with the older camera and MP3 that if XP Mode doesn't have a native driver available that you should be able to install a XP driver that the device manufacturer might have. If there are no XP drivers at the manufacturer's website then see if there are Win 2k ones available for download.
