Hello fellow ThinkPad enthusiasts. I'm looking for a little assistance.
I'm looking into doing a long put off RAM upgrade on my T42 (2373-M33). It currently has 1 512MB unit installed (not sure yet whether it's in the easily accessible slot, or the one that requires keyboard removal).
I found a decent deal on a Kingston 512MB stick (Kingston KTM-TP9828/512), but before I order it, I want to find out if this stick is "high density" or "low density", but I can't find this specific info on this particular Kingston item.
Just from browsing around, I've seen instances where such and such manufacturer, or retail outlet, have mistakenly approved memory of being compatible with certain laptops. Then the buyer tries to install it and finds out that there lappy doesn't take this so called high-density RAM.
Any advice? Is this a "high density" memory stick? Does it even matter for a T42?

Re: T42 RAM Question - "High Density Vs. Low Density"
It makes no difference for your T42, you can put in any working PC2700 SODIMM.
Rather than 512MB, buy a 1GB module instead.
Or sell your current module and replace it with 2x1GB.

Great. Thanks for that info.RealBlackStuff wrote:It makes no difference for your T42, you can put in any working PC2700 SODIMM.
Yeah, I've thought of doing that, but it doesn't feel right to spend $40 or so dollars just for RAM when the computer itself is probably only worth about $150. But, I dunno.RealBlackStuff wrote:Rather than 512MB, buy a 1GB module instead.

Thanks again for the help.

Re: T42 RAM Question - "High Density Vs. Low Density"
After doing some learning about how to somewhat understand the pagefile/memory stats in windows task manager, I realized that upgrading to 1.5GB was the best move, so that's what I did.
Holy crap. What a difference this has made! I should have done this a loooong time ago. No more constant hdd churning, no more sitting around waiting for programs to close before I can open other ones, etc. etc. I'm one happy thinkpadder.
