Amazing. Is it possible that they actually listened to our cries? Is it possible that lenovo doesn't want us all to buy macs for their better displays (and just run windows on them)?

I sure hope they are available for more than the first week and a half of production like lenovo sometimes does with good options.

There are no Mac laptops with an IPS display.

Still it's 16:9 with only 768 vertical pixels. Will have to do scroll constantly to do any work.

Macbooks with 1050 or 1200 vertical pixels still look very appealing.

I don't think it's quite valid to compare a 12.5" resolution to 15" and 17" resolutions, respectively.

Not IPS but their average displays are better than average lenovo displays. If lenovo launches the X220 with an IPS it will really bring back some of the hope I lost when they ended the X300 line.

Well said. Crappy TN screens are a big problem, but the 16:9 ratio's lack of vertical real estate is an even worse problem. I welcome the return of IPS, but am still far from excited about this X220. And IPS is more important for large screens than for small screens anyway, and so I would be slightly more excited if Lenovo offers IPS for the T520.

Both Dell and HP are reducing their 17" Business laptops (the Precision M6600 and Elitebook 8760w respectively) to 1080p from 1200p. They will both have IPS but I would still rather have an above-average TN screen with 1200p.

Good points. I guess I'll try to look at the bright side in this case. Its a step in the right direction and I dont think lenovo is going to try to fight off the tide of 16:9, so at least its IPS.

It is a shame seeing those 1200 pixel screens downgraded to 1080.

Yes, I agree with you there. But X60/61 tablets had option for SXGA+ 1400x1050 on a 12" display. Granted it was only for tablet and few outfitted their X60/61s to the SXGA+ display.

768 vertical pixels are too few in my opinion.

It'd be hard to do 1440x900 on a 16:9 notebook. I suppose you could do 1600x900, but the pixel density is even higher than 1440x900.

The resolution on this blows, else awesome laptop..don't see using it w/o an external monitor when not on an airplane.
They could've done better pixel density with a 12inch screen.

Yeah but it wouldn't hurt to give people this option. Sony has a 1920x1080 option for their 13" Z Series. If you don't like high-density resolutions, don't upgrade.

Perhaps it's not worth it for them to make the effort as so few opt for it.
