won't boot from xp and no recovery disk

#1 Post by ptg451 » Thu Mar 10, 2011 9:00 pm

I am a noob to think pads as i was giving a x200 tablet running xp.
So i was able to turn it on once, when i tried again i got a blue screen:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage.
if this is your first time seeing this. please try again if not.......
check for virus on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drive or controllers.
stop:0x0000007b (0xf7bd2524, oxc0000034,)

So I re-started and the same screen appeared. So the third time I restarted and choose: "run from last know working config" and nothing happened.

In the BIOS I ran a HDD diagnostics test and received a read verification error.

The person i got it from doesn't have the recovery desk.

I bought a new hard drive a WD 250 gb and i have legit copy of xp. However the desk will not load from the ultrabay(i have checked to make sure the ATAPI CD0 is on top of the WD HDD) but all that happens is a black screen with a blinking cursor.

Any thoughts?

Moved this thread to the X200 forum. Go into BIOS and set the SATA mode to compatibility.

I have had that problem sometimes. I can't explain it, but I have had a similar issue. The screen stays black, but it's actually going through the beginning of the setup process where it loads all the temporary drivers. I left it for a bit and it went to the screen asking me what I wanted to do. Completely skipping the driver loading screens.

Try letting it sit for a while and see what happens. Might be surprised.

Sorry about that I'm also new to forums. I know I did alot of searching in the X200 forum. I will try it as i saw that in the Bios but wasn't sure what it was for.

Thanks

O.k. so I tried to let it set for awhile (the HDD light was blinking) but then i recieved another blue screen with the new hard drive. Then i switch the sata mode to compatablie and I am currently finishing up the xp installation.

Thanks for the help I have a lot to learn now.
