Heaviest components in thinkpads?

#1 Post by ssd_thinkpad » Sun Mar 13, 2011 9:58 am

My ranking after taking the 15 inch T60 apart:

1. Battery
2. Panel (15 inch)
3. Fan (!!!)

Case etc. - all was lighter!

I forgot the heavy hdd. I removed it the day I got the notebook and replaced it with a ssd in the ultrabay, much lighter.

The roll cage is not so heavy, it's surprisingly light!

Oh cool to know, I haven't had one out before. Only my T60 has one I believe anyway. I know my X60/X40 don't have them. The metal bottom panel is surprisingly light.

Other than the three mentioned components, everything was light:

the top, the bottom, the mainboard, the grey metal frame.

I am in the mood of buying a lighter notebook and so I was trying to see if I could "lighten" my T60. But no chance here, everything is light with the exception of
  • battery (I need it),
  • the panel - heavy! (I bought this notebook for it) and
  • the metall fan assembly (I disabled the fan so I need the assembly to distribute heat).

You know, I have always wanted to have super-light, one-cell batteries for laptops. I use my laptops on AC >>99% of the time, even when traveling, and so I really don't need to have 6 cells or even 3 battery cells.

The lightweight adapters are there again (but only 6, and they run out fast...)
