Interesting Acronis True Image find: Rescue on bootable DVD

#1 Post by Marc_G » Wed Mar 23, 2005 8:15 am

Hi folks-

I've been bellyaching over trouble getting True Image Rescue Environment to boot off a USB key. Haven't cracked that nut yet, but did find this thread about making the True Image Rescue Environment part of a bootable DVD, so that the data and rescue environment could both reside on the same DVD disk.

http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=48186

It's a long thread with several edits, but the very first post on the thread works for me. Got it to work on the first try.

I'm someone who believes that the rescue environment should always be present on whatever media holds the backup image...

Hope this helps someone.

As often as True Image is updated, now v8 b800, I find it's better to keep it on a disc of it's own.

Agreed Selvan!

I have a regular TI disk burned as a CD, but whenever I burn images to DVD, I now include a copy of the rescue environment matching the version used to create the image. I feel safer this way.

Now if I could just get that darn rescue environment to boot off a USB flash drive...

I don't know what's your beast (EDIT: I see it now) but the FlashDrive is too advanced for my nearly extinct X20, good luck on that. Also, do realize that any version ATI image is accessible by the latest release.

Brilliant post, Marc_G, thanks!

I had tried to copy over an image from my old thinkpad when I got my T22, and was suprised to find that after booting with the Acronis boot CD I had made before the DVD drive was not listed as a location for the tibs. The bootable DVD would fix that problem.
