XP not recognizing sata drive on R60

#1 Post by pcengine92 » Thu Mar 17, 2011 10:55 am

Hello again, everyone. I recently bought an R60 off ebay for parts/repair. I've had to replace the cpu due to bent/broken pins, but everything else is in order. My problem is, the bios recognizes my cloned hard drive, but xp does not. I put in the hard drive that came with the unit (which also has the recovery installation) and it boots up fine. I should state that my new hard drive was cloned from my current pata drive on my r40. I know that xp itself wasn't designed to recognize sata drives, and I've already downloaded the intel matrix storage manager from lenovo (copied to cd). But since xp doesn't see my hard drive, I cannot load the matrix storage manager. I'm totally stuck. Any ideas??? :??:

Go into the R60 BIOS and set your SATA controller to compatibility mode.

I've tried both "ACHI" and "compatibity" modes, and the result is still the same. When booting with the cloned drive, the xp loading screen will show for a second or two, then I get a bluescreen page, and the system reboots. When I use the sata drive that came with the unit, it boots just fine.

You can't boot from a drive that was cloned from a R40, the hardware is WAY too different between R40 and R60...

No other way, huh? Well, then I'll have to erase the drive and re-install everything.

Nope. Not even in safe mode. I'm currently erasing the cloned hard drive, and then I will do a re-install either tomorrow or this weekend.
