discharge order of dual batteries on a T410s

#1 Post by tagteam » Sun Mar 20, 2011 8:56 am

running Xubuntu 10.10 my T410s seems to discharge and charge only the
ultrabay battery. following http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Tp_smapi:

sudo modprobe smapi
echo 1 > /sys/devices/platform/smapi/BAT1/force_discharge

but the file force_discharge would not be affected, i.e.
# cat /sys/devices/platform/smapi/BAT1/force_discharge
still yields '0'. I also tried to change the value with emacs, which gave:

IO error writing /sys/devices/platform/smapi/BAT0/force_discharge: Invalid argument

finally, the script http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Talk:Code/tp-bat-balance
produces output like this:

,----
| [95%] { } <--14.8---[73%]
| # setting force_discharge on battery 0 to 1
| [95%] { } <--14.9---[73%]
| # setting force_discharge on battery 0 to 1
| [95%] { } <--15.1---[73%]
| # setting force_discharge on battery 0 to 1
`----

but does not seem to have any effect.
do I have to stop the acpi first (how) in order to activate tp-smapi?

any help would be very much appreciated.

The last Thinkpad I had with dual batteries was a T23. I was running SuSE on that.

IIRC it charged and discharged the ultrabay battery first.
New:
Thinkpad T430s 8GB DDR3, 1600x900, 128GB + 250GB SSD's, etc.
Old:
E6520, Precision M4400, D630, Latitude E6520
ThinkPad Tablet 16GB 1838-22U
IBM Thinkpad X61T, T61, T43, X41T, T60, T41P, T42, T410, X301
