X40 hdd question (compatible with 2.5" hdd connector?)

#1 Post by pdudas » Wed Mar 23, 2005 12:28 pm

Hi!

I have an X40. There is a 40 gigabyte hdd in my machine. 1.8".
Is the 1.8" HDD connector compatible with the 2.5" connector? I have a 2.5">>3.5" converter, so I want to backup all the data I have.

Can I connect the 1.8" hdd to the 2.5" hdd connector without any damage?

Don't know the specific answer to your question, but you do mention that you want to backup the 1.8" drive. If so, you could get a portable USB hard drive and that can be used for backups. Just a though :)

Yes, they're the same IDE connector even though the drives are a different size.

It should work no problem. Just make sure you don't plug the drive in upside down.

Once you have it connected. Plug it into your desktop on the second IDE channel and remove any CD ROMs in the second channel. This will guarantee no conflicts.

There are 4 pins isolated on the connector that are used for Master / Slave / Cable Select, but usually there are no jumpers to indicate Cable Select.

Thanks for your help!

I can backup my X40 without an USB HDD. It is a lot more faster than backup to USB enclosure.
