LMS lost connection to Intel(R) MEI driver??

#1 Post by cannongeorge » Sun Mar 20, 2011 6:09 pm

Thinkpad W510, running WINDOWS 7, 64 bit and with SSD. Everything seems to work well, latest patches and updates (from Lenovo and Intel) provided, but the Application Event Viewer is filling up with the message "LMS lost connection to Intel(R) MEI driver" (sometimes over a dozen per second!). This appears to be happening on a number of Windows 7 64 bit machines, but nobody I've talked to knows how to fix it. Any suggestions appreciated, Thank You!

i searched your event message text and found the following:
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/wind ... abb621deb8
and followed the link in the post marked as an 'answer':
http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-O ... m-p/270941

so... have a look here:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... 74582.html
and see if either of the intel amt downloads might be applicable to you. alternatively, you might try tv system update and see if it offers anything.

I checked the intel website, it says I have the latest drivers. I downloaded a set of new patches (ncluding BIOS driver) from Lenovo, still the same problem is ocurring. The Intel "Management Engine" components consist of the intel Management Engine Interface, Serial over LAN driver, Intel Management and security status, Local Management Service, and user Notification Service, my version is 6.00.1179. I did a re-install of the SOL driver, no change. Sarbin, the link you provided takes me to an HP website which provides an executable file to re-install the Intel drivers; but I am a little more than reluctant to use an HP program on a Lenovo machine.
I called Lenovo support, they were not very helpful, all they could advise me to do at this point is back up everything and get ready to do a major re-installation of Windows 7. Apparently both Dell and HP have issued hotfixes for this problem, I'm still looking for Lenovo to do something as well.

wasn't suggesting you install any hp driver package, just that the links might provide troubleshooting info or insight. that's why i provided the ibm/lenovo download link to look for similar items.

I went ahead and downloaded the Intel AMT 6.1 Management Engine Firmware for Windows 7, which took my AMT firmware from v6.0.41.1216 up to 6.1.32.1076. (BTW, there is an error in the Lenovo Installation Script File, which is run from a Command-prompt - Even though you are running from command prompt in administrator mode, the batch file doesn't know where to go find the FWUpdlc1.exe installation file; the solution is to navigate (inside of DOS) to the directory where the driver files are installed, and then run the Script file from there.)
In any event, despite the updating the management Engine Firmware and SOL driver, the error continues.
Pardon my ignorance, but can I go into device manager, try uninstalling the "Intel (R) Management Engine Interface" and then re-installing it from there? I'm a little nervous about disabling my machine while I am at it....
THanks for your help!

i believe you can. i've got both an x200t and an x301 sitting here with clean (non-lenovo preload) win7pro-64 installs. both have an 'unknown' device listed in the device manager. guess what that device is... the intel mei. haven't bothered installing the offering on tvsu on either machine, and probably won't as i'm seeing no negative operational issues. all that said, if you're concerned, you could set a restore point before uninstalling, or if really concerned, take a full backup before proceeding.
