How to take apart an i series?
I've got this old IBM i series laptop from a friend. The monitor doesn't work, but I got it for free. It will boot and work on an external monitor but I'd like to see if I can get the screen to work. Maybe its a broken wire or somehting. The problem is I don't know how to get it apart. Someone please point me in the right direction.
Thanks
Thanks

Well I have it apart now. That PDF worked awesome. Thanks G-Man. And..... now what? LOL. The monitor on it doesnt work and I had heard that sometimes the culprit is the flat cable running through the hinge gets broken. But it looks fine to me. Does anyone have any ideas? I know the video on the notebook works because I can use it to run an external monitor. Could it be a burned out backlight? Is there something that usually fails on a laptop LCD? I realise this probably isn't worth my time but I would like to try to get it to work. Does anyone know of a way to test the LCD panel?
If it is a burned out backlight, then if you look really closely you'll see the image on the LCD (you have to look extremely closely for the Windows OS being there since nothing is shining through) If you see absolutely nothing, then it isn't a dead backlight and is possibly a bad inverter or something else preventing power to the screen.

I had a TP with a busted backlight a looong time ago and you could see that the LCD was still working by shining a flashlight on it to show the screen contents. Don't know if that's still true, but worth a try.

I got it apart and back together again. Yes I am amazed also. Anyways when I switch from the external monitor to the internal one if I look really close I can see the black lines going horizontally across it. So I still don't know if the backlight is burned out or not but I think I have a more serious problem here. Is that a bad LCD panel or is it something else. What does the inverter do? One of the things mentioned in the IBM repair manual is the LCD Inverter ID. What is that?
