T43p good choice?
T43p good choice?
I currently have a 1024x768 T42 which I love, but I'm tempted to get one with a higher resolution IPS display. So I've been thinking about buying a used T43p... Do all of the ones with 1600x1200 resolution have the IPS display? Is this a sensible choice? How is the reliability? What should I expect to pay?

Sure, I consider myself a sensible person and I've made this choice (many times) in the pastcacophony wrote:Is this a sensible choice?
In comparison to other machines in that series, T43P reliability is goodcacophony wrote:How is the reliability?
$200 to $300cacophony wrote:What should I expect to pay?
Just be aware that T43P is a model that is going on 6 years old, and IPS LCDs were never very bright to begin with, and often yellow with age. So if you can check out the LCD in person that would be a plus.
Re: T43p good choice?
Thanks for the info. I actually won an auction on ebay for a T43p, but the seller just emailed me to say that the specs posted aren't entirely accurate (and asked if they were acceptable).
Here was the auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... &viewitem=
According to the seller it actually has the 64MB X300 graphics. Is this a positive/negative in terms of heat, reliability, etc?
He says he got the auction specs from the IBM website, so I asked him for the machine type so I could check myself. If IBM disagrees with what his machine says I'm not sure what to think... swapped parts?

Re: T43p good choice?
That's a HORRENDOUS price for a STANDARD T43 which is what that machine is.
15" SXGA + does not equal 1600x1200...
Windows 7 on a T4x?

This is what the seller sent when I asked for the machine type, serial number, etc:
Type 2669-H2U S/N: L3-LXZC1 06/05
The specs on the Lenovo site show a 2.13 Ghz, 1600x1200 LCD, 128MB ATI FireGL V3200.
What's going on here?
BTW, I just asked for a refund. Thanks for the help.

I 'think' George was reacting to the auction title "1.86 GHz 2GB RAM 15" SXGA ".(1600x1200 is UXGA) Anyway, I think you are best walking away from a machine that the seller has no idea what it is...unless you know more than he does

I fully agree with Harry. Besides the graphics card not matching Lenovo's description, the photos show a 6-cell rather than 9-cell battery. You never know how many additional discrepancies there are. Getting a full refund is the right thing to do.

All standard (4:3) format 15" T60p units have IPS/AFFS screens...the "local" one is widescreen and hence not IPS...

How about this?
http://cgi.ebay.com/IBM-THINKPAD-T60P-2 ... 564326276f
More $$ but it comes refurbished from Lenovo with a 90 day warranty. The display has the lower resolution, but I'm not sure that would be an issue for me assuming the quality of the display is on par with the UXGA.

Re: T43p good choice?
That's the very page that I got my info from, but the funny thing is that although it does state it's a "p" model, there's nothing "p" about it...they are supposed to have either a V5200 or V5250 GPU, not the measly X1300...
Anyways...
All 15" models with SXGA+ (1400x1050) and UXGA (1600x1200) resolutions are FlexViews during the T60/p phase. Standard XGA (1024x768) screens are not IPS.
Experiences...some units had filthy exteriors, the other ones had dim screens...and many people were quite pleased with what they got.
I only ever bought one refurbished laptop from IBM (T400) and was very happy with what I received in the terms of condition.
YMMV.

Whats the debate about the T60 with X1300 GPU?
Im going to look at a "2008-46U" on friday with the X1300 GPU.
Although it is advertised as a R61, the type # comes up as a T60.
And as far as i can see if its a T60 2008-46U it seems as basic as a t60 comes, HDD upgraded to 7200 rpm, and ram upgraded to 2gig, but $200 or less it looks like.

In general, T60 units are amongst the most reliable ThinkPads ever.
