Ubuntu, Edge, T-60, & Alfa

Any thoughts on this one? I have the same version of Ubuntu (10.10) in my Edge (64-bit) and my T-60 (32-bit).
My alfa high gain usb adaptor lights up immediately when connected to both of them. It simply works in
the T-60 but not in the Edge. In fact, the Alfa works very well with the T-60, much better than the internal card
in the Edge.

Oddly enough, it will not light up (the LED) in either laptop if the internal wireless card is shut off (bios in the Edge and
hard ware switch in the T-60). I get a consistent, strong signal any time of the day with no drops in the T-60 but I cannot
connect with my Tp-link WR340g router no matter where I go or what I try in my Edge (I've tried disabling the internal wireless in the bios).

Also, I had to fresh reinstall 10.10 with the Alfa connected and I boot with it connected to get the stellar results with the T-60.
I did no terminal tweeking or driver install. I tried all of that and got nowhere, just a lit LED. What did the trick was simply
installing Ubuntu 10.10 with the Alfa connected from before boot from the CD with the ISO file. The only time I have any problems is when I boot and then connect the Alfa. Then I can unplug and replug all I want with no bad effect.

Any Ideas why it cannot connect in the Edge?
