GPU Driver

#1 Post by Param » Mon Mar 28, 2011 8:28 pm

I have nVidia Quadro NVS 140M (yet to fail !), when i checked for latest drivers from Windows 7 device manager, i get the status as driver is upto date with following details

Driver Date: 9/5/2009
Driver Version: 8.16.11.8694
Driver Provider: NVIDIA

However, when i checked nVidia website to check for latest driver, there is a latest one listed as below for download type: Quadro Graphics Driver

Version:
267.76 WHQL

Release Date:
2011.03.24

Operating System:
Windows 7

Language:
English (U.S.)

File Size:
132 MB

Please clarify! Do i have to update as per nVidia website or can i simply ignore driver update

There's an old saying - if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I was wondering the same thing last year. I have two T61's and I was not satisfied with the video driver. The performance was not consistently smooth enough with Win 7 desktop aero interface animations. So, I have been using the latest drivers on Nvidia's website. What a difference. Everything works like a charm. Every Lenovo feature works and the video performance is excellent. I have a feeling Lenovo is afraid that the driver would fry the GPU's that have not been replaced from the Nvidia recall. So, just make sure that you don't have one of those defective GPU's
