Fan Error

#1 Post by spoon » Wed Mar 23, 2005 8:09 pm

Hi guys,
I'll be receiving tomorrow a box for sending my T42 2378fvu to IBM,because this morning
the fan stopped working. It's still under warranty, so all will be fixed in some days, but around me there are several guys with cheap Compaq laptops working for years without hardware issues. I must say that it's a great disappointment for me to verify that my T42 is not as reliable as less expensive laptops.
Just I had to say that. Regards.

It is always disappointing when a high quality device fails out of the starting gate. I sympathize with you. Nonethless, overall, ThinkPads are higher quality than Compaq, Toshiba and Dell in my opinion (having worked with them all). So I hope that when you get it fixed, your machine will work well and you will be happy. ... JD Hurst

It's usually a matter of bad chance more than anything else. My T40 has failed twice due to bad system boards, while other people I know with T40s had not so much as a lick of trouble. I know somone who took home a cheap Compaq Presario laptop from Best Buy and it was blue screening on him every few hours, and I know others who had no problems other than the hinges getting loose and the fans making excessive noise.
