WTB: R51-1830BTU memory

#1 Post by Nohbody » Wed Mar 30, 2011 2:33 am

I'm looking for a 1GB module for my R51, and was hoping I could do better than the 40-50 bucks (not including shipping charges, if any) that I've seen while surfing around the web.

If anyone has a SODIMM they don't need, please drop me a line.

Thanks in advance. :)

The R51 uses PC2700 memory (as ATPO notes), though I don't know if it can handle faster without breaking things.

T40-41-42/R50/R51 takes DDR-PC2100 or DDR-PC2700 (and sometimes DDR-PC3200)
T43/R52 takes DDR2-PC4200 or DDR2-PC5300

The 40-50 I mentioned was for stuff specifically mentioned as being compatible. Does (well, did, given it's an old model) IBM futz up their laptops to not accept generic memory?

Serious question, I'm still kinda groping around blindly in the laptop world, being mostly a desktop user since the family's Apple ][e (yes, I still do it with the brackets instead of "2") back around 1980 or so (I sometimes have trouble remembering yesterday's breakfast, never mind ~3 decades ago :P ).

The DDR1 machines are pretty forgiving on memory. Provided you use the right speed just throw it in and run it. If in doubt run the PC3200. Prior to the T30, the machines used PC133 and PC100 and could (were) pretty particular about density.
I don't have any first hand knowledge on the DDR2 machines so someone else will need to answer that portion.
