Speaking of dead pixels

#1 Post by Kenn » Wed Mar 23, 2005 10:14 pm

So far, I've had about 700-800 dead pixels (of the ultranav variety) on my thinkpad. And I got to wondering: I've owned other laptops in the past, all of which have had Synaptics touchpads and drivers. None have had this weird soft-dead pixel problem. What exactly is it with the thinkpad version of the synaptics driver that does this?

Bah, I know nobody has an answer, I just thought I'd throw it out there, maybe some nice Lenovo engineer is lurking and will take pity on our more trivial problems

PS: Anyone racing to reply to the tune of "Lenovo is keeping the original IBM thinkpad team" can save the keystrokes, I'm posting in (mostly) jest :)

I've religiously applied every new version of the Ultranav driver since the day I got my T40 (in August '03) and it has still had the pixel problem in every single one. I don't think its going to go away any time soon, if ever.

When a white pixel somewhere appears on your screen, it is not a hardware issue (as true dead/stuck pixels are) but is somehow generated by something, and goes away when you move your mouse over it and click the midde touchstick button.

I haven't experienced one in a month now, I did uninstall a few of IBM's other applications, but it may simply be a coincidence.
