R61 LCD Cover Fix Options

#1 Post by Nycto » Wed Mar 30, 2011 10:53 pm

Typically I post these questions on the Lenovo forums...but I stumbled across this website awhile back and figured I'd ask it here instead.

So I have these circular blemishes on my R61's LCD cover. I bought the laptop used on eBay from a seller who said they came about from removing a corporate logo. While they're not a terribly big deal, I'd prefer if they weren't as noticeable. I guess I want to know if there is there an ideal method for touching up or repairing these blemishes. I'm not about to replace the cover of the panel (though the thought did cross my mind), I'd just like to address it if I can do so at a reasonable cost.

Here's a couple pictures of what the lid looks like.

There's no retouching there...new lid only...

Good luck.

Or put a BIG sticker/skin on it to cover the whole lid: http://cgi.ebay.com/LAPTOP-NOTEBOOK-SKI ... 0496534422

Someone here mentioned a Mr Clean Magic Eraser, I don't think it will make it any worst.

Those circles look like glue to me. If it's Crazy Glue you can try Acetone. If it's epoxy you're done.

I wish it was glue or some sort of adhesive. The finish has been stripped off. On some parts of the circles, the plastic is actually really smooth to the touch, almost like someone sanded it down.

It reminds me of my college's old surplus laptops actually. Two or three years ago, they upgraded to all HP stuff, and sold off all of their IBM units through the school surplus store. The vast majority of these units were A2x, A3x and T4x machines, with the occasional I series or some other oddball popping up. Anyway, while they sold working units for $100+, anything that was not a complete unit was sold as scrap, of which I bought several. Problem was, is that all of these units bore a print of the college's logo on the top of the panel, and though I owned the laptops fair and square, I sometime got questions about why the college laptops weren't with the college. So I took it upon myself to come up with a remove the printing from cases...long story short, the solvent used took the print off the laptop, but also chewed through the finish on the panel, leaving kind of a burned look where it (the solvent) had sat too long on the case.

I might look around here for someone with a spare lid in couple weeks or so. I love this laptop, so I want to keep it looking spiffy.
