X61T, Hinge Power Off
X61T, Hinge Power Off
In the last week or two, I've encountered a pretty serious problem with my X61T.
Anyways, the issue is the following:
Every single time I tilt the screen below ~70 degrees towards me, with the screen facing me, the X61T completely powers off. It will not turn on after that without pulling the battery, then re-inserting the battery.
Rotating the screen to work in tablet mode, etc, has no issues.
This is a hardware problem, because it happens even while the PC isn't completely booted yet (in BIOS or whatever)
My X61T out of warranty now, and I use it daily for school...anybody else encounter this issue, and know of any fixes? I really don't want to (a) lose the laptop for a week+, (b) pay lots to fix it.

Wires are fine under the hinge caps...
I ended up taking off the LCD bezel, looking at the micro processor board, and unconnecting/reconnecting the connectors.
Didn't really do anything; the issue still exists...and it doesn't seem to have been an issue from under the bezel.
Any suggestions?

Wow this is trippy
Did you check the wires under the keyboard?
What if you turn the screen ~90 degrees (not 180) and then tilt it?

Re: X61T, Hinge Power Off
I'm still trying to diagnose it. Wires under the keyboard appear to go under the motherboard, so I'm unsure as to where the LCD connectors are.
Originally, when the problem started to occur, it would be fine rotating it 90 degrees then putting it into tablet mode. Now, it dies randomly only rotating it back to laptop mode =S screen sort of flickers then the power cuts out...

Re: X61T, Hinge Power Off
I think this pretty much confirms a mechanical wire problem of some sort

Re: X61T, Hinge Power Off
I agree with Ivan, it's most likely a shorting or partly broken LCD cable.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

The fact that it shuts down makes a short likely. Some protection kicking in to prevent damage.RealBlackStuff wrote:I agree with Ivan, it's most likely a shorting or partly broken LCD cable.
I've had one X60 tablet with a bad LCD cable. Basically when you tilt the screen the cable would have weird lines and colors running over it. The machine wouldn't shut down, though.

Did you ever resolve this? I am having the same issue with my x60t. I know the cables are not that expensive.
