Usb Problem

Alright so my t42 wont read my iphone usb anymore what should i do? I have it double partitioned with ubuntu 10.10. it wont read my iphone on windows but it will read it on ubuntu. what could be causing this problem and how can i fix it?

Your problem is the Southbridge chip becoming loose, that chip needs to be reballed.
The USB speed is probably down to USB1.1, a common symptom.
Linux seems to 'work' closer with the hardware than Windows.

It is quite possible that the situation is RBS described, although there isn't a 100% certainty, especially since you say it reads it in Ubuntu.

Do you have any other USB devices that fail to work properly (esp. USB 2.0 devices, such as flash drives, hard drives, cameras)?

Do you sometimes get a message along the lines of "this device can perform faster" (which indicates the USB ports running at 1.1 speed)?

Is the problem intermittent? Does it go away sometimes?

Does pressing down hard on the palmrest near the touchpad help? (a clear indication of the south bridge issue).
