32 bit windows to 64 bit windows

My thinkpad edge shipped with 32 bit windows

How do I get to 64 bit? I want to add more memory

welcome to the forum.

you do a clean install of win x64. there's no in-place upgrade path between win x86 and x64.

You might hit up Lenovo for a set of restore disks, 64 bit version, if this is a new laptop. That oughta get you to a factory fresh installed image.

will they do that if the system shipped with 32bit? i thought they could only ship what was part of the initial configuration, but if they have leeway, i'll be pursuing that with a machine recently procured for a family member.
