A22p screen resolution change?

#1 Post by Indy452 » Sun Apr 03, 2011 9:36 pm

Is there a way to change the screen resolution from 1600x1200 to something a bit bigger? Seems as though 1600x1200 is a bit too small. I was wondering if it can be changed in the bios or something? I can't change it with the OS I'm using so wondering if it can be done another way? 1440x900 would be my ideal resolution but I would settle for 1400x1050. Possible?

You might have a problem there...

There's no BIOS setting to adjust the resolution.

Secondly, 1440x900 is a 16:10 while your LCD is 4:3 so that's a no-go.

If memory serves me, 1400x1050 was not an option on these screens, but 1280x1024 was...at least in Windows.

What OS are you running on that oldie?

Puppy linux 5.2 and it works rather well too. I just find the resolution is a bit too small for my eyes. I have tried all the xorg configs and they all revert back to the 1600x1200. Oh well...I tried.

Just going from memory here, so it might not be exactly right. But, while Puppy 5.2 does automatically detect native monitor resolution on boot (unlike previous Puppys), I think you can still use Ctrl+Alt+Backspace to exit X, and then run xorgwizard to manually choose whatever resolution you want. I'm using my A30P right now, with the 1600x1200 panel running at 1280x1024. Don't have the A21P available at the moment to check, but it should work the same.

I have a few machines with the 1600x1200 15" screens. Something like Windows 2000 on an A21P does look kind of small, while in XP it looks a bit bigger. Can you just change font size under linux to make the text bigger instead of messing with the screen resolution?

I never got really familiar with Puppy...

Back in the days, I used to run PCLOS version 2005 (possibly 2006) on ThinkPads of that - and earlier - vintage and it worked like a charm...

I guarantee that PCLOS wouldn't do too well on this h-ware these days... :P

Puppy or AntiX work well with it and I did fiddle faddle with xorg enough to get 1280x1024 to work in 16bit color but the screen seems a bit fuzzy...not real bad but just enough to irritate me....I switched back to 16x12.

Thanks for the help folks!

I can't remember where just now, but you can change the universal font size in Puppy. Using the native rez with a bigger font will get rid of the fuzzies and make it easier to read.

Yes, thanks.....I just did. Its the "set global font size" puplet in the menu under desktop>desktop settings. The default was set at 78. I set it to 102...lol. Much better now. Now in Chromium, I had to zoom each page to 119 vs the default 100.

Thanks for the help and ideas folks! Its much...much better now.
