The X220 appears to have made it worth to look into the purchase of a new notebook this year.
Yet, telling by my fiancée's W510, the high-pitched noise is definitely an issue that I have to see resolved. Call me exaggerating or, well, still with good ears, but the noise drives me bad within a good 15 minutes.
Does anyone know whether the issue has been resolved with the new Sandybridge platform? Otherwise, I prefer to settle with my T400.
High-pitched processor noise still there in Sandybridge?
Re: High-pitched processor noise still there in Sandybridge?
If Quanta redesigned the power circuitry, then yes.
If they still decided to need to save 1/10 of a CENT for a better capacitor to fix the problem 100% of the time then NO.
And you're not exaggerating because my T510 (now on its second board, still whines, replacement laptop sent whines also, sent it back) does this too.
If my soon-to-arrive T410 still whines I'm asking for my cash back since that'll be the third time they've tried to fix the thing.
Otherwise I don't think enough people have obtained X220's to tell.
I know that some X201's have the whine but I don't think it's as prevalent in the the X series as it is in the T510/W510/T410s(?) mainboards.
If it whines, return it as defective (because it is) or exchange it for another one if you absolutely need the laptop.
You should have them replace the whole machine if you get a whiner.
