T60 vs. R61
Which is the better choice:
T60 with Core duo T2400(1.83GHz)
or
R61 with Core2Duo T7300(2GHz)?
From what I've read online, I believe the T-series is supposed to be better than the R-series.
Thank you

Re: T60 vs. R61
Don't believe everything you read elsewhere...
There is T60/R60 and T61/R61, quite different machines.
R6x models are basically T6x models with a different material for the casing, and they are a bit bulkier.
The T60/R60 can take up to 4GB RAM, of which only ~3GB is usable.
The T61/R61 can take up to 8GB usable RAM.
T60 comes with Intel or ATI graphics.
R61 comes with Intel or nVidia graphics. T61/R61 with nVidia graphics should be avoided like the devil avoids Holy Water.
The T61/R61 CPU mentioned is way more powerful (and is Core 2 Duo) than the Core Duo T60/R60 CPU mentioned.
And so on. This has been discussed many times, use the Search function!

Re: T60 vs. R61
Thanks,
I didn't know what to search for to find advice on comaprisons between the two.
It has the Intel X3100.
I found a review, from notebookreview, I think, from 2006 that mentioned they both have the same, new hi-tech materials in their build.

Re: T60 vs. R61
I've never seen an R61, but the R52 I'm working on has a very different internal structure compared to the T series. No metal subframe and uses the plastic housing as a stressed member. For the most part it's been very durable and solid, but the lack of a really strong hardpoint to attach the screen hinges to means the thing has basically broken in half.
Re: T60 vs. R61
This changed starting with the R6x generation. As a rule of thumb, the newer the R series, the closer it is its T series "siblings".Reboot wrote:I've never seen an R61, but the R52 I'm working on has a very different internal structure compared to the T series. Re: T60 vs. R61
Speaking of all this, are T61 and R61 screens interchangeable? I just bought a parts lot that includes a complete R61 screen assy.

Re: T60 vs. R61
14.1" widescreen LCDs and entire LCD assemblies are swappable between T61 and R61 models. (You just have to swap decals and clear plates if you want correct designations on your machines.)
15.4" widescreen LCD panels are swapplable between T61 and R61 models, not the assemblies or any assembly parts (covers, bezels, cables, inverters, etc.)
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
To the OP, if you're looking at 14" machines and you prefer or have no preference between 14" and 14" widescreen, then I'd select the R61, it is only 1/8 of an inch thicker than the T61 counterpart and has the rubberized cover finish. As mentioned above, the T61 series is a generation newer, more upgradable and generally better performing.
For 15" models, there is a huge difference between the T and R series machines. While still fine machines, the R61's are noticeably thicker and heavier and have the lower grade plastic cover finish.

Re: T60 vs. R61
OK, I purchased the Lenovo ThinkPad Type 7733-1GU.
I'm hoping it's only missing the HDD cover and that there's no damage there.
I purchased online and the pictures show that the cover is missing. They didn't mention it in the description but there wasn't a black cover. There are two pieces of metal on the outer edges of where the cover would be with a gap in the middle where I've seen a plastic pull tab in other pictures on other sites to pull out the HDD carrier. It doesn't come with a HDD.
It has a power-on password. I know the forum doesn't help with getting by PWs but where can I officially go, Lenovo, what URL, Email or Phone number to get official help with this? What can I expect to have to pay? What will they require for proof of legitimate ownership and how long will it take?
Thanks

If it's only a Power-On-Password (POP), see http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-59377

Re: T60 vs. R61
It arrived.
The HDD cover was inside the HDD carrier withthe screw in a tiney zip lock bag.
It turns out that it has an administrator's password.
