Thinkpad w510 error 2100 on boot C300 128gb.
Thinkpad w510 error 2100 on boot C300 128gb.
Can anyone provide a solution to the error 2100 on boot with SSD's? Mine is a Crucial C300 128gb and I cannot even load the OS yet.
Running latest BIOS (1.37) on laptop and the SSD is the latest firmware (currently ver 6). I was able to see the drive and partition using a USB3 HDD external case. After placing drive in primary HDD0 was only able to "see" the drive if I set the BIOS sata to "compatibility mode"
Drive passed all the BIOS tests while in "compatibility mode" but OS install still does not complete. If BIOS is set to AHCI mode (which is the correct setting for SSD’s) the W510 boot to an error 2100 and does not recognize the drive.
I also was able to load and run SSD from a Dell Latitude so I do not think this is the SSD.
Thanks

that looks like it's only for specific platter drives.

Re: Thinkpad w510 error 2100 on boot C300 128gb.
I opened a ticket with Lenovo. (spoke to first level tech) Was told that since I did not buy SSD from Lenovo and that my original HHD worked I get no support. (surprise). When I said that the SSD loaded fine on a Dell Latitude, reponse was same. Lenovo position is if not from lenovo (no support)
Now I have opened a thread on the Crucial forum and the response was what I expected that the Thinkpad is to blame. What I am now asking of the forum community is: anyone running a c300 on a W510 4810 w/o the boot error?
Thanks
any details on request.

Re: Thinkpad w510 error 2100 on boot C300 128gb.
I got my Error 2100 this morning after Windows 7 64-bit stopped responding and I force-shutdown it by long-pressing the power button. Out of frustration, I removed the battery and the SSD for a while (like 5 minutes) and put it back. It booted up properly since then.

Re: Thinkpad w510 error 2100 on boot C300 128gb.
Update: I placed the w510 in diagnostics boot mode. This gives a little more time for the hardware to examine itself..
I was able to load the OS finally. (boot time even with diags mode on went from 45 seconds on HDD in quick mode to 15 seconds with SSD in diags mode)
Now I only get a 2100 error 25% of time from cold boot, when cold boot error occurs a 3 finger salute usually brings it right in to os now. (if I place it back to quick boot the error occurs 100% of time) When I perform a warm reboot from OS about 25% of time I get the 2100 error. The more I search this issue the more it seems that a lot of people on a lot of different systems and different SSD's have a problem with SDD being recognized at boot.
Some folks have made suggestions that the c300 is problematic for thinkpads and have suggested this drive or that drive. When I research those drives I find the same issue for some users. Latest suggestion is to use either an intel 510 or a vertex 3.
May I ask: What SSd are you running in your W510?
Thanks

Re: Thinkpad w510 error 2100 on boot C300 128gb.
I use the Crucial C300 256GB RealSSD with Firmware 0006. It works 99.99% of the time. I have only seen Error 2100 once last weekend; otherwise it has been working great!Fcrites wrote: May I ask: What SSd are you running in your W510?

Ok will try. Results in about 24 hours.

don't be surprised if the firmware updater lists no drives needing servicing as there are no crucial drives listed in the supported models.
looks like crucial is getting ready to release an update that addresses issues with v 0006: http://forum.crucial.com/t5/Solid-State ... td-p/41594
might want to keep an eye on: http://www.crucial.com/support/firmware.aspx also.
good luck.
